Student Affairs AdministrationFor specific guidelines and overview of the SAAHE program, please scroll down or browse the various links below.
Program Overview Admission Process & Contact Curriculum Faculty Program Overview The student affairs profession evolved from the recognition that personal development and learning occurred not only in the classroom, but also in other phases of a student's life while enrolled in college. Student affairs supports the educational mission of the institution in furthering the total, ongoing development of students intellectually, emotionally, physically, socially, culturally, and vocationally. The Student Affairs Administration in Higher Education (SAAHE) specialization provides coursework and practica leading to a master of science or master of education degree in educational administration. The full-time SAAHE curriculum emphasizes an exciting blend of classroom learning with practical experience. In addition to coursework (42 credit hours) and two semesters of comprehensive practica (150 clock hours each), students are encouraged to apply for graduate assistantships in the Division of Student Affairs or in related areas. One of the most distinctive aspects of the program is that it operates on a cohort basis, which allows approximately 15 full-time students to enter each fall and to progress together throughout the entire program. This unique structure cultivates support, encouragement, and friendships from the moment that the SAAHE experience begins.
Established in 1876, Texas A&M University is the oldest public institution of higher learning in the state. Once an all-male military school, Texas A&M today is a modern and internationally recognized co-ed university offering hundreds of fields of study. A world leader in teaching and research, Texas A&M ranks among the top ten institutions in the nation in size, research funding, endowment, and a number of other areas. In addition, it is one of a select few to hold triple designations as a land-, sea-, and space-grant university. The College Station campus is centrally located (see map) between three of the country's largest cities -- Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio. College Station and the adjacent city of Bryan comprise a metropolitan area of over 100,000 people. The community offers a vibrant array of cultural activities, restaurants, sporting events, parks, historic sites, and recreational activities. The Easterwood Airport provides easy access to other major cities. |
